Habit 5::Seeing global patterns and processes over time and space while connecting local developments to global ones.

 

           

          In this class we learned to look at how one event of history affects or triggers something else to occur. Therefore, making it bigger, and at times even global. Interaction of places with other places has the end result of sharing of culture, ideas, and communication. As communication increases the influence of certain aspects spreads slowly all over the world. Nationalism started spreading as fast as a fire during the late 1700’s through the 1800’s. The first independent movement took place North America, now it is called the United States of America. They wanted independence from Britain. In the United States declaration of independence they state that  We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”, or in other word equal rights. Later on this feeling of want for equal rights influenced the French people, which lead to a revolution. The French Revolution began in 1789 with the convocation of the Estates general. As time passed they wrote the Declaration of Man and Citizen. During all this time they had the colony of Saint Domingue that was later influenced. As soon as the word got to the Island of Saint Domingue (a France territory) the nationalist inspirations got to them. Therefore they wanted to kick out the French, and get the equality they all wanted. By equality I mean the abolition of slavery, and establishing a republic.

        Nationalism is that eventually spread all over the world. This is the reason why I chose to use the Haitian Revolution document base question essay. Although I got a two on my essay, I decided to use the Haiti essay, because it shows the spread of nationalism.
